The Turkmen land has always been renowned for hospitality. From the date of gaining Independence of Turkmenistan, construction started with erection of the modern hotels combining the Eastern luxury with European level of service. The complex of a dozen fashionable hotels, including – "President", "Nebitchi", "Gara Altyn", "Yedigen", "Azia", "Mizan", "Kopetdag" and others sprang up in the south of Ashgabat, in the picturesque mountain foothills. Nowadays, Ashgabat has dozens of high class hotels which meet all the requirements of clients.

Not only in Ashgabat, but in the regions as well, modern hotel infrastructures have been created. The tourist sector is developed most dynamically in the Balkan velayat, the territory rich in natural resources, cultural sights and resorts. Already in 1997, the comfortable "Nebitchi" hotel had been built in the administrative center of velayat – city Balkanabat. Recently, two high white-marbled "Serdar" and "Turkmenbashy" hotels have been erected on the coast of the Caspian Sea in Turkmenbashy city. In the near future it is planned to build in the first stage about 60 comfortable hotels of different categories to form a modern resort and tourist infrastructure at the Caspian seaside.

The tourist infrastructure is actively developing in the Dashoguz velayat also. Historical monuments of architecture in Kunya-Urgench town, and ancient settlements and other sights preserving the history of these places attract travelers and tourists.

The unique historical shrines, which the Mary velayat is so rich in, won world fame. A white marbled hotel is located in the administrative center of velayat - city Mary. In 2004 this hotel was named "Margush" the name of the legendary country which existed a millennium ago on this territory.
